A view from our room, look at that pretty blue water. We couldn't wait to get in it. We arrived Honolulu after a 5 hour flight from Oakland and we were ready for some sun.
After we dropped our bags off, we headed down Waikiki Beach to see what was out there. Diamond Head is in the background, but a better picture is below of just Diamond Head.
A Sunset in Hawaii, how beautiful. We were lucky and were able to catch a lot of sunsets. This is taken from the beach of our hotel.
We spent today at the beach and looking around the area to see what there was to do and of course a little shopping:) Eating at Dukes, a famous place on Waikiki. Uncle Joe recommend it to us and it was good. It is right on the water and so you can hear the waves while you are eating.
We took a Whale Watching tour on the Star of Honolulu. December - March is Whale season and as you can see below we got to see a calf breach out of the water it was great. We had lunch while we were on the boat and the couple that they sat next to us, John and Joy, were there celebrating their anniversary, and guess what day they were married on, yes, February 17th, so that was really neat. I was able to make a Flower Lei for my head, it was fun.
Cari and Andy recommended a place for us to eat, Roy's, it was very nice and we had great food.
Cari had called ahead to let them know we were coming, and they brought us a nice little treat to congratulate us. The next day we would be on our way to Kauai. We were very excited.
Today we went on a Charter boat ride up the Napali Coast and to the Forbidden Island to do some snorkeling. As you will see from the pictures we had a lot of great sights. We did have to be there at 6:30am in the morning and it was a 45 min drive from our hotel so that was a early morning, but worth it. The picture above is a picture of the Sun Rise, the only one we saw!
One of the three different kinds of dolphins that was saw along the way. They were so amazing.
A cave that we went by, how beautiful.
The Napali Coast
A whale tail and a blow, so there were two whales there. We had a chance to see a lot of fun things along the way.
Here is Al diving down with all those fish, we did have a great time.
The place that we stopped and snorkeled at. The water was very chilly, but it was worth it, we saw a lot of fish and we even saw a shark, it was very small and really far down, but it was neat. We also were able to hear the whales in the area talking under the water, it was great.
After snorkeling on the way back to the mainland:) We were ready to just relax and get through some choppy water.
On the beach outside our hotel, it was a very nice evening.
After a long day on the boat, snorkeling etc., we decided to go to the Luau that is held at our hotel. It was a good time! The food was wonderful.
A few of the dancers
After getting up, the electricity went off in the middle of the night, we had some rain, we headed to Wailua Falls, as you can see behind us, it was gushing. We overheard a local saying that it is never this big, so we picked a great day to see it.
After the falls, we headed to the other side of the island to Waimea Canyon, a very spectacular place. As you can see from a few of the shots below.
Our last day in Kauai. We got up and sat by the pool at our hotel just relaxing prior to heading to the airport.
Good Bye Kauai, a view from the plane ride to Honolulu.
Once we got back to Honolulu, we rented a car and headed for the Arizona memorial. if you look behind our heads you can see it. we watched a video and then we took a boat over to the memorial
Here we are coming up to the memorial. It was a very amazing site.
This is part of the ship that is in the water, as you can see there is still a lot of the ship that is in the water. It was amazing and we were very glad that we went and paid our tributes to those that lost their lives that day.
A few pictures from our Hike up Ka'Iwi. It was a nice hike and once we got to the top there were some great views!
At the top, we found some people to take our picture, how nice. If you notice Al has his "Game Over" shirt on with a picture of a bride and groom, we thought it was appropriate to wear:)
If you look hard enough you can see Al catching the wave in while we were at Bellows Air Force Base Beach.
Wearing our new shirts that Andrea and Mike bought for us. Al's says " Don't let this man drink any beer, Thank you His Spouse" Mine says "Don't let his woman spend any money. Thank you Her Spouse"
